Eastern New Mexico University will display the artwork of students graduating with a bachelor of fine arts degree in four separate shows. The first show will ends on Friday, May 6, with a closing reception from 5-7 p.m. and the second show will be on Sunday, May 8 – Friday, May 13 with a closing reception on that Friday from 5-7 p.m.

The students displaying their work in the first show are Chris J. Rosen, majoring in animation, media arts and design, and James Berry, Nicholas Cole, and Kimberly Smith, majoring in interdisciplinary arts.

The students in the second showing from Sunday, May 8 – Friday, May 13 are Kary Mathys and Timothy Bomar, majoring in graphic design, and Rachel Eades, Nikole Vigil and Lanita Isbell, majoring in animation, media arts and design.

According to Bryan Hahn, secretary for the Department of Art, a bachelor of fine arts (BFA) degree prepares students in a more highly specialized and directed way to enter professional fields in the arts.  As a candidate for the BFA degree, individuals must complete a senior exhibition that features a current body of work that best represents the candidate’s skills and talent in their discipline.

Along with the variety of the shows, there is also a variety of work within the shows. “Each of the candidates truly has a unique artistic voice and vision as young artists. Their aesthetics and how they use their preferred media also differ greatly,” says Hahn. “The work exhibited in BFA exhibitions are the academic and creative journey that each of our candidates have gone through during their time at ENMU.”

Those who attend will be treated to the evolution of artistic work, which is Hahn’s favorite aspect of the showings. “I most enjoy seeing the end product of our students’ time at ENMU. To see what work they are now producing is very humbling; the final product being on display in the gallery is exciting to experience.”
