PORTALES—Eastern New Mexico University alumni and friends are gathering to support the ENMU Greyhound football team when they go on the road to play Incarnate Word College (IWC) in San Antonio, Texas, on Saturday, Sept. 10.
A pre-game social is scheduled for 3 p.m. at the LA Quinta Inns & Suites San Antonio Convention Center, and the group will depart at 5 p.m. to attend the game together. Kick-off is at 6 p.m. in the stadium located on the IWC campus.
ENMU Foundation director Noelle Bartl and Alumni Affairs coordinator Dawn Wolf-Taylor are working with ENMU alumni association board member Kurt Hixson of San Antonio, ENMU Foundation board member Jerry Wright of El Paso and Rose Dillard of San Antonio to put the event together. Packages are for sale that include the pre-game social, a football ticket and an ENMU alumni t-shirt for $20 per person and are available through Tuesday, Sept. 6, on a limited basis.
George “Beacon” Bailey (BS, 1980) is one of several ENMU football team alumni who will be in attendance. Bailey said he and many of his classmates were all recruited in the same year from John Jay High School in San Antonio to play football together at ENMU. Jack Scott, who coached football at ENMU from 1970–77, will be attendance, as well as brand new ENMU graduate Ethan Wagner.
All alumni and friends are invited to join the group of over 75 San Antonio-area ENMU alumni and friends attending so far.
