Groundbreaking for Eastern New Mexico University's new $15.6 million, three-story residence hall will be at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 7, at 17th and K Streets in Portales. That is the site where the previous dorm, Lincoln Hall, was torn down.

The name of the new residence hall will also be revealed. ENMU dorms are named after New Mexico counties, and ENMU students recently voted between Sandoval, Chaves, Guadalupe and DeBaca.

The facility will have 308 beds, with each four-person suite having two two-person rooms with a bathroom in between.  On the bottom floor, there will be a large community lounge with a fireplace.

Speakers at the groundbreaking will include Steven Gamble, ENMU president, Chad Lydick, president of the ENMU Board of Regents, and Alan Kinlund, president of the ENMU student body.

Special guests will be the ENMU Board of Regents and the ENMU graduating class of 1961, who are in town for their 50th-year reunion during ENMU's homecoming.

The construction company for the project is Bradbury Stamm of Albuquerque; the architectural firm is Van H. Gilbert Architect of Albuquerque; and engineers are TME of Tucson.

In case of inclement weather, the ceremony will be moved to the Sandia Room in the Campus Union Building.
