PORTALES — The Eastern New Mexico University College of Fine Arts will present the musical "Into the Woods" on Oct. 27-30 in Buchanan Hall in the Music Building on the Portales campus.

Performances will begin at 7 p.m. on Thursday through Saturday, Oct. 27-29, and at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 30. Admission is $6, and tickets can be reserved and/or purchased in the Department of Music office or by calling 575.562.2377.

The co-directors are ENMU faculty members Jason Vest, Jean Wozencraft-Ornellas and Elizabeth Wade.

A retelling of several Grimm Brothers' fairy tales, "Into the Woods" follows Little Red Riding Hood, Jack (of the Beanstalk), Cinderella, and other familiar characters as they enter the woods in search of fulfillment of their various wishes. The stories do not end at the typical "Happily Ever After," but follow the characters as they discover life's lessons in their adventures through the woods.

All of the departments of the College of Fine Arts have participated in the production.

Members of graphic design classes competed to design the publicity materials, and the winning submission will be featured on the posters and programs for the show. All of the entries will be displayed in the Music Building lobby prior to the show. Digital film-making majors have followed cast and crew members throughout the production process in order to make a documentary film on the mounting of a musical.

The Department of Theatre faculty and students have designed and constructed costumes, learning to create a wolf, cow and witch out of ENMU students. Many of the props and set pieces were provided by the Department of Theatre.

Over 30 music students and faculty have spent the last month and a half rehearsing their roles, and learning the various elements of stage movement, direction, blocking and character development.

One of the supporters of "Into the Woods," the Do Drop In restaurant in Portales, will be open following the show Thursday through Saturday so that patrons can get sandwiches and homemade sweets and meet the cast members.
