PORTALES – Eastern New Mexico University first-year and senior students were compared to a peer group in responding to questions about their college experience in The National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) report titled "Fostering Student Engagement Campus-wide–Annual Results 2011."
The report compared benchmarks of student engagement at ENMU to 29 other Southwestern public universities in Arkansas, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas.
Below are a sampling of responses of first-year and senior ENMU students compared to their Southwestern peer group.
- "Asked questions/contributed to class discussions."
ENMU First Year vs. Southwestern Peer Group: ; 65–51 percent - "Discussed grades or assignments with an instructor"
ENMU First Year vs. Southwestern Peer Group: ; 64–48 percent - "Received prompt written or oral feedback from faculty."
ENMU First Year vs. Southwestern Peer Group: ; 66–49 percent - "Worked with faculty members on activities other than coursework."
ENMU First Year vs. Southwestern Peer Group: ; 27–16 percent - "Participated in a learning community."
ENMU First Year vs. Southwestern Peer Group: ; 33–21 percent
- "Asked questions/contributed to class discussions."
ENMU Seniors vs. Southwestern Peer Group: 79–67 percent - "Discussed grades or assignments with an instructor"
ENMU Seniors vs. Southwestern Peer Group: 73–59 percent - "Talked about career plans with a faculty member or advisor."
ENMU Seniors vs. Southwestern Peer Group: 52–38 percent - "Discussed ideas from classes with faculty outside of class."
ENMU Seniors vs. Southwestern Peer Group: 39–27 percent - "Said the institution substantially encourages contacts among diverse peers."
