PORTALES--The Clovis and Portales chapters of the Eastern New Mexico University Alumni Association has officially voted to combine their efforts and named a new slate of officers. The officers are:
Dr. Kathie Good, President
Trish Maguire, Portales Vice President
Diana Cordova, Clovis Vice President
Betsy Chavez, Secretary/Treasurer
Dawn Wolf-Taylor, coordinator of Alumni Affairs, said that the combined chapters will make the efforts of each previously separate group bigger and better. “Everyone knows there’s strength in numbers,” Wolf-Taylor said, “and collaboration between our two towns and groups will make our combined chapter efforts much more effective and lots more fun.”
The combined chapter will now welcome Clovis High School seniors who will be attending ENMU when they graduate to apply for the former Portales ENMU Alumni Association chapter scholarship, which was previously open to Portales High School seniors only.
The ENMU vs. Angelo state basketball games on Thursday, Dec. 15, at The Rock gym on the Clovis High School campus is one of the first efforts resulting from this combination of chapters. Funded by the Bank of Clovis and hosted by ENMU Athletics together with ENMU Alumni Affairs, the ENMU Foundation and the Clovis/Portales chapter of the ENMU Alumni Association, the event will start with a pre-game social for ENMU alumni and friends and a live remote radio broadcast at 4 p.m. Barbecue from Pop’s in Clovis and desserts provided by the Clovis/Portales chapter will be provided free of charge before the game in the practice gym of The Rock. The Zias tip off at 5:30 p.m. and the Greyhounds hit the court at 7:30 p.m.
One hundred and fifty t-shirts, several sets of season tickets, two $500 cash prizes and more will be given out during the games to attendees, who must be present to win.
The pre-game social and barbecue is free, and tickets to the games for ENMU faculty and staff with ID cost $6. General admission is $7, and students can attend for free with ENMU ID. Seniors and youth under 18 are $6 and children ages five and under can attend free.
