PORTALES–Eastern New Mexico University will host Nicole Flores' Senior Voice Recital on Thursday, Nov. 15, at 7 p.m. in Buchanan Hall in the Music Building on the Portales campus.

The recital is free and open to the public.

Flores will perform pieces by Beethoven, Copland, Rachmaninoff and Dvořák.

With the help of her professors Jean Ornellas and Kayla Paulk, she has worked on the recital since last April.

"Because it is my senior recital, I wanted to do music I felt a real connection with and music that said something to me," said Flores.

Because she is singing in a new language that she isn't used to, the recital has been a difficult challenge. Most recitals consist of pieces sung in German, French, Italian, Spanish and English, but Flores will also perform in Russian.

"Everyone's senior recital is very important because it is the culmination of everything you have learned and achieved throughout your undergraduate career," said Flores. "There is a lot of work behind it and you get to see someone doing what they love to do."
