PORTALES – During "Eastern in Action" day on Saturday, April 6, 318 students at Eastern New Mexico University have signed up to help Portales residents with projects.

Community members were invited to request help with any projects that they needed assistance with. The 11 requests range from painting jobs to picking up debris to trimming trees.

The students will also split the downtown Portales area up into four quadrants and clean the streets and area. Also, some students will start at the curve on both 1st and 2nd Streets and work towards the Stripes convenience store, while the last group will work Highway 70 toward Greyhound Stadium.

The students will gather at the Campus Union Building at 7:30 a.m. to be assigned tasks. After their tasks are completed, they will return to campus for a meal and drawings for door prizes.
