ENMU Hosting Annual High School Drama Festival on February 21–24

PORTALES—Eastern New Mexico University will host the annual Drama Festival from Wednesday, Feb. 21, through Saturday, Feb. 24. During this period, approximately 400 high school students throughout New Mexico and West Texas will perform on ENMU's Main Stage and attend workshops taught by Eastern faculty and upperclassmen.

High schools attending and the plays they are presenting include: Albuquerque High School—Stop Kiss; Carlsbad High School—We're Experiencing Technical Difficulties; Clayton High School—Requiem for a Small Town; Cliff High School—Night Voice; Cobre High School—Don't Say Macbeth; Del Norte High School—Supermodels in Jeopardy; El Dorado High School—General Valley Hospital; Elida High School—Tapioca and Something; Farmington High School—Oedi; Highland High School—Oh CRAP, Another Play; Hope Christian School—Old Testament Revival; Los Alamos High School—Purple Haze; Menaul High School—Friday Night at the Dreamplay Theatre; Moriarty High School—Booby Trap; Ruidoso High School—Seven Reversals; Sandia High School—A Cold Day in Hell; Santa Fe High School—Rent; Silver High School—Cut; Tascosa High School—TBA; United World College—United World Airlines Flight 007; Valley High School—Am I Blue?; and West Mesa High School—Defenseless Creature.

Eastern has been hosting the Festival for 52 years. About 90 percent of theater majors at ENMU came to the Drama Festival when they were in high school.

Throughout the Festival, students have the opportunity to attend a variety of workshops, including basic movement and stage combat, playwriting, theatrical scene painting, comic improvisation, theatrical makeup, lighting design, basic stage directing, improvement in acting and many others.

During the Festival senior high school students also have the opportunity to audition for the ENMU drama program.
