PORTALES – Eastern New Mexico University students Robert Bean, Mark Winnett and Garet Ervin have lost everything they own in a fire that burned down their house Sunday morning, March 3. Being full-time students and working more than one job is tough enough, but imagine your house being burned down and losing everything you own. These students lived that nightmare.
A general fund has been set up at Portales National Bank to assist the students in acquiring essentials. Any kind of donations will be greatly appreciated. The Red Cross has assisted some, but more support is needed. The students lost everything from clothes and computers to toothbrushes and shampoo.
Dr. Gary Musgrave, vice president of Student Affairs, has helped the students by giving them an ENMU apartment to stay in until they find another house to rent. Other ENMU staff is helping as well.
Donations can be given at Portales National Bank. If you want to talk to the students themselves, their temporary number is 505-562-3089.
Robert, Mark and Garet would also appreciate it if any renters who have houses available would contact them.
