PORTALES – Teachers, parents, and other community members are invited to review and comment on the proposed textbooks that have been approved for adoption
by the State of New Mexico's Department of Education Instructional Material Bureau.

The new Adult Basic Education, Career/Technical Education and Driver Education textbooks are currently available for examination at the Instructional Resource Center (IRC) located at Eastern New Mexico University's Golden Library. The IRC is located on the second floor of Golden Library and is open on Sunday from 12 p.m. to 11 p.m., Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 11 p.m., Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

These new textbooks are for use in all secondary New Mexico public schools for the next six years. New Mexico follows a six-year cycle in approving textbooks in each subject area for use in the public schools. Textbooks placed on the official list are available for local adoption throughout the six-year period.

New Mexico is one of 22 states with an instructional material adoption process. Pursuant to state law [22-15-1 to 22-15-14 NMSA 1978], the State Board of Education (SBE) approves annually an extensive list of instructional material to be made available to educators and students.

By its own regulation, the SBE defines how this process is implemented,
and the Instructional Material Bureau carries out the Board's directives.
