RUIDOSO – An ENMU-Ruidoso Fitness Walking class has won the Saturday, April 20, annual Keep Ruidoso Beautiful Community cleanup competition. Twelve students, led by Walking Instructor "Stretch" Meadows, picked up 99 sacks of trash plus assorted tires and telecommunications cable in the all-morning cleanup.

Meadows schedules the cleanup as a regular class activity, emphasizing fitness as well as community volunteerism. ENMU students and staff joined nearly 100 other volunteers from area banks, radio stations and individual volunteers. The cleanup is also known locally as "the Bank Challenge."

"This activity is one of many that Center staff, faculty and students are engaged in as part of an effort to be an award-winning institution and to give back to the community that has done so much for us," said Center Director Dr. Jim Miller. Miller is also a fitness walking class member.

Another volunteerism opportunity is available to Ruidoso students and staff on May 4, date of the annual Ruidoso River cleanup, spearheaded by ENMU-Ruidoso economics instructor Dick Wisner.
