PORTALES – Eastern New Mexico University recently honored student achievement (and an advisor) with the 2002 Leadership Recognition Awards during the Student Affairs Banquet. The following received awards:
For the Peanut Valley Festival Scholarship, the four students nominated were Lorita Noland, Shannon Osbourne, Kristian Randolph and Elise Swaving. Shannon and Kristian won.
In the category of student organizations, A.H.O.R.A. won Outstanding Student Organization for Service and Most Improved Student Organization of the Year. FFA won for Academic and Professional Outstanding Student Organization, Best Program, and Outstanding Student Organization of the Year. The winner for Social Fraternities and Sororities and Outstanding Community Service was Kappa Sigma.
Honored in the Office of Housing and Residence Life Awards were Joan Kostedt and Daquita Mitchell for Hall Council Member of the Year. Keith Fowler, Meghin Irwin, Shannon Osbourne, Sara Holland, and Monique Garcia were awarded Best Educational Program. Shane Brown, Jeremy Taylor, Meghin Irwin, Susan Dew, Brandy Fudge, and Sabrina Mariner were awarded Best Social Program.
Students nominated for the Student Employee Awards were Guarena Adeky, Kimberly Apodaca, Renee Flores, John Fuller, Jana Heath, Kathryn Pauline Howl, Michelle Jones, Candice Lopez, Jennifer Miller, Claudia Molina, Christopher Scott, Alisha Quiroga, and Katie Valkenburg. The winners were Guarena, John, Candice, Claudia and Christopher.
There were 11 students nominated for the Outstanding Student Leader of the Year Award. They were Jeremy Aragon, Chad Brinkman, Michael England, Laura Hollingsworth, Laurie Johannsen, Tomee Lightfoot, Shannon Osbourne, Kristian Randolph, Christopher Scott, Elise Swaving and Nancy Varelas. The winners were Jeremy, Chad, Shannon and Nancy.
The awards were sponsored by Eastern's Associated Students Activities Board.
Dr. Margaret Willen received the Outstanding Advisor of the Year Award.
