Portales – Eastern New Mexico University now has a new internal auditor. ENMU president Steven Gamble offered Sherri Johnston the chance to move from her position as assistant internal auditor to internal auditor. She replaces Bill Jones, who accepted a position as the new dean of Administrative Services on the ENMU-Roswell campus.
Johnston has been with ENMU for 18 years. She moved to Portales from Arizona with an associate's degree and in 1995 she received her bachelor's in business administration from ENMU. She has been actively involved in many committees at Eastern, including serving on both the Support and Professional Senates.
Throughout her 18 years at Eastern, she has held five positions on campus. She started out as a receptionist/typist for the ENMU housing department, then was the senior secretary for the College of Fine Arts, then a textbook buyer for the Eastern Bookstore, became assistant internal auditor, and now internal auditor.
"Each area has been like a new career change within the University," Johnston said. "I have learned something valuable from every position."
As Internal Auditor, Johnston has the duty to insure to the president and board of regents that the directives, policies and procedures of ENMU are carried out in accordance with state law and good management practices.
