ROSWELL – Eastern New Mexico University-Roswell was honored by the Roswell Hispano Chamber of Commerce at its Annual Awards Banquet June 22.
The college was named the recipient of the 2002 business award for the Non-Profit of the Year/Community Participant of the Year. The award was presented to the college in appreciation of its support of the Hispano Chamber and its involvement in community development activities throughout the year.
Dr. Dwight Rogers, Dean of Instruction accepted the award from the new Hispano Chamber of Commerce President, Melissa Urban, and Outgoing President, Roberta Ahlness. Gary Giron will serve as Vice President, while John Banda will serve as Treasurer and Astuti Abukusumo will serve as Secretary for 2002-2003.
Bob Bowman, Dean of Student Services was one of four new directors named to the Hispano Chamber Board who took an oath of office during the installation ceremony at the banquet. The Honorable Judge Alvin Jones performed the installation of the incoming board members and new Hispano Chamber officers.
In addition to Bowman, the new board members are Edie Carrillo with C & C Mortgage; Rey Michael Arias, UNM Student; and Alyce Delgado with the NM Income Support Division. They join Bobby Villegas, Darrel Bethany, Frances Medrano, Michael Trujillo and Joe Vargas on the Hispano Chamber Board.
