PORTALES—Eastern New Mexico University is conducting a national search for a head women's basketball coach, according to ENMU athletic director Mike Maguire.  "No timetable has been set for hiring a new coach, but we would like to have someone on-board by the end of the spring semester," Maguire said.

The new coach will replace Dan Buzard.  During his four years as head coach, the Zias compiled a 47-63 record.  He was an assistant coach for the Zias for 13 years (nine full-time, and four as a graduate assistant or student).  Buzard has a 1992 bachelor's and 1994 master's degree from ENMU.

"We appreciate Dan's long-time service to Eastern," said Maguire.  "Not only does he have a long history with, but a great loyalty to Eastern.  He worked hard and made many valuable contributions to the program.  We wish him the best in his future endeavors."

Dr. Steven Gamble, ENMU president, said, "Dan Buzard has a long and productive history with Eastern.  We greatly appreciate his contributions to our women's basketball program, and to our university.  As a two-time graduate of Eastern, we could not have asked for anyone more loyal."

Gamble reiterated that there is not a definite deadline for hiring a new coach.  "Our main priority is to hire the right person," Gamble said.  "We want someone who will not only continue Eastern's tradition of success on the court, but also in the classroom."
