PORTALES—The Eastern New Mexico University Department of Theater presents the Senior Director Showcase’s production of Michael Cristofer’s The Shadow Box on Feb.7-9 at 7 p.m., and Feb. 10 at 2 p.m., at the main stage theater in the University Theater Center at Eastern New Mexico University in Portales.

The Senior Director Showcase is a new event put on by the theater department to help its senior students experience what it’s like to put a production on a big stage. The Shadow Box will be directed by ENMU seniors Robert Garcia, Brandon Gilliard and Mandy Hatcher.

Garcia, Gilliard, and Hatcher are all ENMU seniors majoring in theater.

“We are very fortunate to be able to do this,” Mr. Garcia said. “After devoting four years of hard work, the staff trusts its seniors to be able to direct a big production. This is an opportunity that is hard to come by in undergraduate school.

“Putting on the play has had its challenges. We were pressed for time, since we are putting it on within the first four weeks of the semester. But since we’ve had a budget, and the actors have been very easy to work with, it’s been very productive, and a real life experience of how it is in the real world.” Garcia said.
This play will also be presented at the ENMU High School Theater Fest to over 500 high school students and their chaperones.

This Pulitzer award-winning play is about three individuals coping with the last days of their lives.

General admission is $5, or free with a student ID.
