PORTALES – Eastern New Mexico University will present a program about date rape and how to survive it on Monday, Feb. 3 at 8 p.m. in the Campus Union Building Ballroom.
The program is free and open to the public.
Katie Koestner, a renowned sexual assault educator and date-rape survivor who has appeared on the cover of Time magazine, will bring her experience to ENMU in an educational program.
While attending the College of William and Mary in Virginia, Koestner was a victim of sexual assault by a fellow student. She went public with her survival story by speaking to hundreds of thousands of students in high schools, colleges and military schools across North America. She has also appeared on numerous television shows, including "Larry King Live," "Oprah Winfrey," "NBC Nightly News" and "Good Morning America."
The program is titled "No-Yes." According to the Campus Outreach Services website, the program "provides students with information about successful sexual communication, responsibility in the use of drugs and alcohol, and respect for self and for peers."
"No-Yes" is sponsored by ENMU's Project ROAR, Athletics, University Police, Multicultural Affairs, Counseling and Career Services, Associated Students Activities Board, Student Activities and Organizations, Housing and Residence Life and the National Collegiate Athletic Association.
