ROSWELL – The ENMU-Roswell in-service meeting on Friday, Jan. 10, opened with good news from Dr. Judy Armstrong, provost.
The morning after spring 2003 open registration, the ENMU-Roswell headcount stood at 2,495 students. This is higher than the 21-day count from the previous spring semester at ENMU-Roswell.
Web classes offered through ENMU-R continue to be very popular, with 1,114 students enrolled in 60 sections. About 300 inmates from New Mexico Correctional facilities are on-line and enrolled in 23 sections.
Deans and directors introduced new employees from various divisions. Bob Bowman, Dean of Student Services, welcomed Annette Oliver and Connie Taylor, Admissions and Records; Mary McClinton, Educational Opportunity Center; Arthur Garcia, the Trio Program; Delphinia Nuanes, Upward Bound; Sara Rodriguez, Student Outreach; and Douglas Christian, Distance Learning Tech.
Donna Gutierrez of College Development introduced Raul de Lara, Publications Coordinator. Dr. Dwight Rogers, Dean of Instruction, introduced Sabrina Gonzales, Dental Assistant; Marcus Anderson, Material Control Assistant, Aviation; Peggy Harelson, TC Support, Health/EMS; William Kuehl, Criminal Justice Instructor; Shaya Patton, Dental Hygienist; Mavis Williams, Respiratory Therapy instructor; Mary Gayle Wood, Special Projects Coordinator, Customized Training; and Kari Hendra, Nurse Practitioner, Student Based Health Center.
Bill Jones, Dean of Administration, introduced Alfonso Vasquez, Kitchen Utility, Food Services; Elda Chacon, Inventory Clerk, Purchasing; James Richardson, HVAC Technician, Buildings Maintenance; Christopher Gibson, Painter, Buildings Maintenance; Nathan Gentry, Carpenter's Helper, Buildings Maintenance; and Matthew Reed, Cook, Food Services. Arthur Leible, Dean of Information Services, introduced Patricia Jones, Help Desk Specialist, Computer Services; and Monica Ramirez, Secretary for New Mexico Works.
Felecia Harvey presented recognition plaques to National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development (NISOD) faculty nominees Jennie Bower, Ferron Sutton, Kay Trujillo, Gina Buldra, and David Peschka. Ferron Sutton and David Peschka were selected as the NISOD excellence award recipients who will attend the upcoming NISOD conference in Austin, Texas.
Paul Merryman, Director of ENMU-Roswell Human Resources, presented the following ENMU-Roswell employees with service awards: Carolyn Shearman, 25 years; Analisa Mestas, 10 years; Janet Macaluso, 5 years; Donald Burleson, 5 years; Marla Wittkopf, 5 years; Margaret Johnson, 5 years; Lisa Kelt 5 years.
Dr. Alex Pattakos, Ph.D., of The Innovation Group Consulting, Inc., presented "Building Innovation as a Core Competency". He spoke about broadening the definition of innovation, using innovation as a core compentency for all, building transformational thinking ability, and building capacity in organizational innovation. He stated that there are three seeds of creative thinking: Believe in Creativity, Be Curious, Discover New Connections. He explained that the three seeds of strategic thiniking are seeing the big picture, looking to the future, and doing the extraordinary. Thereafter, the individual should seek greater awareness, ignite passion, and take action to think ransformationally. Dr. Pattakos emphasized the need to always ask three questions: Why? What If? and What Else?
After a brief introduction presented by Donna Gutierrez, Director of College Development, Dr. Armstrong summarized the results and recommendations materials, enrollment management strategies, and instructional programs.
