PORTALES – The 2003 Eastern New Mexico University Student Juried Exhibition will be open for public viewing in the Runnels Gallery in the Golden Library through Wednesday, Feb. 5. The student juried exhibition is an annual spring event open to all students enrolled in Eastern New Mexico University. A call for entries, which was released in fall 2002, attracted more than 50 entries – of which 28 were accepted by a faculty committee of the Department of Art.
The exhibition was judged by Professor Carla Tedeschi of the School of Art at Texas Tech University. According to Dr. Haig David-West, chair of ENMU's Department of Art, "It is the usual practice to invite external experts to adjudicate such exhibitions, and Professor Tedeschi was invited in recognition of her significant presence in art and design education."
He said that she will present certificates and cash awards to winners at an awards ceremony scheduled for 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 5, in Room 112 of the jack Williamson Liberal Arts Building. Dr. David-West said that Professor Tedeschi will also address the ENMU art community on her general impressions of the exhibition.
David-West noted that an important award that will be presented is the Denyse Carter Memorial Award in Art. "This is a statutory College of Fine Arts scholarship awarded to an entrant whose work best portrays the dignity and inner strength of women," Dr. David-West said.
The ENMU Student Juried Exhibition is free to the public. Runnels Gallery (in Golden Library) is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, and by appointment on Saturday and Sunday.
