ENMU-Roswell Professor to Speak at International Conference

PORTALES – Maureen Olguin, Communication instructor at ENMU-Roswell, will be a featured presenter at the 25th Anniversary International Conference on Teaching and Leadership Excellence May 25-28 in Austin, Texas. Olguin will speak on "Facilitating a Dynamic and Successful Leadership Program."Olguin's co-presenters will be James Buchanan, Title V Cooperative Project Director, and Janet Macaluso, mathematics instructor. The conference is an annual event of the National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development (NISOD), which attracts hundreds of instructors from colleges and universities around the world.

Sheryl Powell of the University of Texas at Austin thanked Olguin for her interest in NISOD and for taking time to develop her presentation. "Your participation truly makes NISOD a remarkable experience for faculty and staff in community colleges and universities worldwide. Thanks from the entire NISOD team," she said.

Born in Alamogordo, Olguin has earned both a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in communication from ENMU. Last year, Olguin was selected to receive a Teaching Excellence Award from the National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development (NISOD). She was named the 'Outstanding Graduate Student and Graduate Student Teacher in Communication' at ENMU. She was listed in 'Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities,' and was also recognized in the sixth edition of 'Who's Who Among America's Teachers 2000'.

On campus, Olguin serves as president of the faculty senate. She is a member of the IPSI task force, and chairs the ENMU-Roswell Leadership task force. She also serves on the Academic Quality Improvement Project committee and is secretary of the Human Services/Criminal Justice Advisory Board. Olguin is also active in Family Resource and Referral and currently serves as secretary.

In her spare time, she enjoys cooking, baking and being a mother. Olguin and her husband, Steve, have two sons, Anthony and Connor.
