PORTALES – The Office of African-American Affairs at Eastern New Mexico University has many activities planned for Black History Month in February.

Feb. 14 marks African-American Day at the state legislature in Santa Fe.

The second annual event is a celebration of the African-American culture. Students from ENMU were invited to participate by a group in Clovis.

On Feb. 25, African-American Affairs will hold a formal Black History Banquet from 6-9 p.m. in the Campus Union Ballroom. Students may use their meal tickets, but are requested to RSVP to 562.2437.

Tickets for others are $12 and they should RSVP to the same number.

Reader believes that celebrating Black History Month isn't just for the African-American culture.

"Black History Month is good because it opens people's minds and shows certain things in society that people didn't know. Some people didn't know that the first stoplight was invented by an African-American.

"Black History Month is for the American culture."
