PORTALES–An exhibition titled "Mappings and Meditations" by JanetTaylor Pickett will be on display for free public viewing in RunnelsGallery in Golden Library at Eastern New Mexico University through Feb.28.
The featured artist, Janet Taylor Pickett,is professor of art at Essex County College in Newark, N.J. Her workhas been widely exhibited in leading museums across the United States.Her most recent selected shows were hosted by the Montclair Art Museumand the Newark Museum Community Gallery. About her work, which issourced in her gender and ethnic heritage, Ms Pickett states, "Personaliconography such as the heart, bird, photographs, and the dress havebecome stylistic choices. At times, these materials have become tangledup in emotion and form to find their own meaning."
Ms. Pickett holds a master of fine arts and bachelor of fine arts from University of Michigan School of Art.
Pickettwill present a public slide lecture on her creative journey onWednesday, Feb. 25 in Jack Williamson Liberal Arts Building, Room 112at 7 p.m. This will be preceded by a gallery reception in her honor at5 p.m. Everyone is invited to the exhibition, reception and lecture,all of which are jointly sponsored by the Office of MulticulturalAffairs and the Department of Art at ENMU to mark Black History Month.
Runnels Gallery is open during libraryhours at Golden Library. The library is open Monday through Thursday,7:30 a.m.–1 p.m.; Friday, 7:30 a.m.–8 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m.–7 p.m.;and Sunday noon–11 p.m.
