PORTALES--What do the Greyhounds, "The Wizard of Oz," and "Casablanca" have
in common? The 2003 Homecoming at Eastern New Mexico University, where the
theme is "Classic Movies."
Activities begin on Monday, Oct. 6, at 7 p.m. with the annual Songfest
celebration in the Campus Union Ballroom, where student organizations
provide the entertainment. Each team will show off their performing talents
while competing for the coveted Songfest trophy. The event concludes with
the crowning of this year's Homecoming Queen and King.
"Picnic" will be performed at the University Theatre Center on Thursday,
Friday and Saturday, Oct. 9-11, at 8 p.m. Also on Thursday, Oct. 9, 7 p.m.
Thomas Poole, a renowned tenor and ENMU alumnus, will perform in Buchanan
hall in the Music building with soprano Jeanie Wozencraft-Ornellas.
On Friday, Oct. 10, at 2 p.m., there will be ice cream, games, and door
prizes at the Campus-Wide Ice Cream Social on the Dallan Sanders Memorial
Plaza behind the Campus Union Building, hosted by Sodexho Campus Services
and the ENMU Alumni Association. Alumni, staff, faculty, current students
and the public are invited.
Also on Friday, the cheerleaders and athletic teams will host a campus
cookout and pep rally to support the Greyhounds at 5 p.m. Door prizes will
be given. The annual bonfire will start immediately after the pep rally.
On Saturday, Oct. 11, the by-invitation-only Friends of Eastern Breakfast
will be held at 8 a.m. in the Campus Union Ballroom.
Also on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. floats, bands, classic cars, and other ENMU
representatives will pass by at the annual Homecoming Parade on West First
Street. The parade starts on the corner of East First Street and South
Abilene and travels to the ENMU campus.
The Hall of Honors Homecoming Football Game begins at 2 p.m. at Greyhound
Stadium. The Greyhounds will compete against the Angelo State University
Rams. Highlights of the halftime activities include the induction of the
Greyhound Hall of Honors recipients and the presentation of the 2003
Homecoming Court.
Immediately after the game, alumni are invited to The Roosevelt restaurant
for the Post-Game Alumni Social. Complimentary cocktail tickets will be
provided upstairs.
