PORTALES--The Department of Music at Eastern New Mexico University will
present a Steel Band Concert on Friday, Oct. 17 at 7 p.m. in the Campus
Union Ballroom. Two special guests, Darren Dyke and Zack Orr, will perform
with the band.
Orr is a modern folk singer who lives in Los Angeles. Ben
Fong-Torres, former senior editor of Rolling Stone, called Orr's songs
"stunning and inventive." He has performed in such diverse places as rural
Pennsylvania, Austin, London, and Los Angeles.
Darren Dyke is a steel drum musician from Austin, Texas. He has
traveled to universities across the United States for clinics, workshops,
festivals and concerts. He was invited to perform at Panorama in Trinidad
with the Solo Pan Knights and the Invaders Steel Orchestra in 2000.
The performance is free and open to the public. For more
