Nigerian Drummers, Dancers Coming to ENMU on Thursday

PORTALES — Agalu, the Yoruba CulturalTroupe of Nigeria, is performing in Buchanan Hall of the Music Buildingfrom 10-11:30 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 24, at Eastern New MexicoUniversity in Portales.  The performance, sponsored by African AmericanAffairs as part of Black History Month, is free and open to the public.

Based in Santa Fe, Agalu is anensemble of dancers, drummers and textile artists from Oshogba,Nigeria.  They keep alive traditional Yoruba stories, rituals andmythologies through masquerades.  These include drumming, fire-eating,and creation and transformation dances.
