ENMU Names New Director of Nursing

PORTALES — Jan Meyers is the new interim director of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing-Completion Program at Eastern New Mexico University. A search is being conducted for a permanent director.

Meyerswill continue being a full-time faculty member in nursing atENMU-Roswell, while assisting New Mexico registered nurses totransition into the BSN completion program at ENMU-Portales. Her officewill be located on the Roswell campus.

Aformer faculty member at San Juan College in New Mexico and a clinicalnurse specialist in a hospital emergency room in California, Meyers hasa master's in nursing from Kansas University Medical Center. She firstbegan at ENMU-Roswell in 1988 as an adjunct faculty member. She left in1991, and returned in 2002.

"Wehope to have a booming enrollment," said Meyers of the free-tuitionnursing classes which will be offered at a number of sites throughtwo-way video conferencing. "Some of our students will actually be ableto take all the courses they need at their work site to earn abachelor's degree. This will save them time and travel costs," saidMeyers.

The BSN-Completionprogram is open to all registered nurses currently registered in NewMexico and will be offered at a number of videoconferencing sitesincluding Clovis Community College, New Mexico Junior College,ENMU-Ruidoso, the ENMU-Roswell Artesia Workforce Center, Eastern NewMexico Medical Center in Roswell, and ENMU in Portales.

"Thisis a wonderful opportunity for nurses in our area to advance theireducation and training without leaving home," said Meyers.

Meyersnotes that Tammy Lueras, RN, MSN, and Jane Batson, RN, MA, in theENMU-Roswell Division of Health will assist her until a new nursingdirector is named.
