ENMU Names New Dean of Fine Arts

Michael Sitton PORTALES — Dr. Michael Sitton, associateprovost at Hollins University in Roanoke, Va., with responsibility forHollins' graduate programs, accreditation and other duties, will becomedean of the College of Fine Arts at Eastern New Mexico University onJuly 11.  He will replace the retiring Dr. David Gerig.

Dr.Sitton previously served Hollins as acting vice president for AcademicAffairs.  He has been at Hollins in various capacities since 1991,including as professor and chair of music. 

Dr.Sitton has a 1991 doctor of musical arts degree in piano performanceand literature from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, inaddition to a 1982 master's degree from the University of Kentucky anda 1980 bachelor's degree from Mars Hill College in North Carolina, bothin piano performance.

"We arevery fortunate to have Dr. Sitton as our new dean of the College ofFine Arts," said Dr. Steven Gamble, ENMU president.  "He has anexcellent background in fine arts and was highly recommended by hiscolleagues in Virginia.  We greatly appreciate the contributions of Dr.David Gerig during his tenure, and look forward to Dr. Sittoncontinuing Eastern's great tradition in fine arts."

From1987-91, Dr. Sitton was assistant professor of music at Coker Collegein South Carolina, and was a piano faculty member at the Conservatoryof Central Illinois from 1985 – 87.
