PORTALES—The Department of Music is getting ready for the Fall Choralconcert on Thursday, Oct. 20, at 7 p.m. in Buchanan Hall of the MusicBuilding at Eastern New Mexico University.
Underthe direction of Jason Paulk, the concert will feature the UniversitySingers as well as the Chamber Singers. The theme for this year'sconcert is "American Choral Classics," and features American folk songsfrom the 1770s forward. One of the selections is a song, "With MusicStrong I Come," composed by Dr. Michael Sitton, dean of the College ofFine Arts.
Paulk says, "This ismy first year at Eastern, and I am very excited about the choraldepartment and this concert." Mr. Paulk came to Eastern from theUniversity of Oklahoma, where he studied for his doctorate. "My wifeand I love it here," he says. "The people are great."
TheUniversity Singers are comprised of 68 participants, and is open toanyone who would like to join. Members of this choir include faculty,staff and students. The Chamber Singers are made up of 18 people andrequired an audition.
Admission to the concert is free and open to the public.
