PORTALES—Eastern New Mexico University's debate team took third place at the National Junior Division Debate Tournament in Kansas City on March 17–18.
The first year team of Carolyn Dingman and Erin Griffith, both Albuquerque residents, won five of six preliminary debates to achieve the third place seeding in the novice division of the tournament, beating the University of Oklahoma three out of four times. They lost their semifinal debate against Kansas State University on a 2–1 decision.
Aside from winning debates, the pair was recognized for their individual speaking abilities. Griffith was honored as the 11th speaker, and Dingman was the 9th place speaker.
The team debated whether the United States Supreme Court should overrule particular decisions affecting the war on terror, abortion, education, and domestic violence.
