PORTALES—On Friday, April 27, Eastern New Mexico University in Portales will play host to 25 teachers and five superintendents from 11 New Mexico school districts participating in the Historical Connections Project this summer.

Part of a U.S. Department of Education program to enhance the quality of history education, Historical Connections will offer participants a summer session class at ENMU in which they will learn both content about New Mexico history and innovative methods for conveying that information to their students.

The class will involve field trips to the Bosque Redondo Memorial in Ft. Sumner and the Robert H. Goddard Museum in Roswell.

As a preliminary step, the participants will meet at ENMU Friday to receive instruction on the methods and procedures for the class. The course will be team taught by Drs. Donald C. Elder III, professor of history, Gerald Gies, associate professor of history, Alex Garman, assistant professor of history, and Mr. Michael Powers, instructor of history at Clovis Community College.

Elder and Powers are co-directors of the Historical Connections Project.
