PORTALES—The Department of Music, the Associated Students Activities Board and Hispanic Affairs at Eastern New Mexico University in Portales are presenting “Tres Vidas,” a music theater work, at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 25, in Buchanan Hall of the Music Building.
Written by Marjorie Agosin and directed by Matthew Wright, “Tres Vidas” is a mixed- discipline performance. The core ensemble includes Tahirah Whittington on the cello, Hugh Hinton on the piano and Michael Parola on percussion. Gerorgina Corbo will act the roles of the three famous Latin American women.
The work is divided into three scenes, one scene for each woman. Scene one is about Frida Kahlo, a well-known Latin American painter and a very influential Hispanic artist. Scene two is about Rufina Amaya, who was the sole survivor of the 1981 “massacre al El Mozote” in El Salvador during the country’s long civil war. Scene three is about Alfonsi Storni, one of Argentina’s most popular female poets.
Admission is free and open to the public.
