PORTALES—Those who have not obtained tickets in advance can purchase them at the door for Mitch Albom's "And the Winner Is..." in Buchanan Hall of the Music Building at Eastern New Mexico University on Saturday, Dec. 1, at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., and Sunday, Dec. 2, at 2 p.m.
Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students. Proceeds benefit ENMU scholarships and the historic YAM Theatre in downtown Portales.
"And the Winner Is…" tells the comic story of Tyler Jones, a self-obsessed movie star who is finally nominated for an Oscar, then dies the night before the awards. Outraged at his bad luck and determined to know if he wins (even though he is dead), he bargains with a heavenly gatekeeper to return to earth for the big night. Along the way, he drags his agent, his acting rival, his bombshell girlfriend and his ex-wife into the journey.
The play has a very wholesome ending, but gets there through some adult/PG-13 themes.
The play, directed by Bob Vartabedian, vice president for Academic Affairs, stars ENMU faculty members Mary Ayala, Patrice Caldwell, Don Criss, Don Elder, Antony Oldknow and Tomas Tamayo.
