PORTALES—The Smithsonian Exhibit "Key Ingredients: American by Food" will feature "NuMex Garnet Chile" with Stephanie Walker, New Mexico State University vegetable specialist, at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 18, in Room 141 of Golden Library at Eastern New Mexico University.

She will spotlight a new chile variety that produces such a red pigment that it is used in food coloring, lipsticks, bologna and even mayonnaise. Yet, it packs no tongue-burning heat.

Refreshments will be served. The public is invited free of charge.
