PORTALES—The Golden Library website at Eastern New Mexico University in Portales has been selected as the "College Library Website of the Month" for August 2008 by the Communications Committee of Academic College and Research Libraries (ACRL).
According to Pete Gilbert, chair of the ACRL Communications Committee, "The College Libraries Section recognizes that a library's website, in addition to enhancing access to a library's resources and services, serves as a major means of communicating with users.
"The Communications Committee would like to extend our congratulations to all of those who have worked to build and maintain Eastern New Mexico University's outstanding site."
Once selected, the sites are listed on the College Libraries Section's site along with a brief summary outlining the reasons for their selection. Gilbert said, "Beyond simple recognition, it is hoped that by highlighting these Web pages we are providing the library community with a convenient listing of sites that can be used by others to gain insights and inspiration to enhance their own library's online presence."
The "Site of the Month" page is at http://www.ala.org/ala/acrlbucket/cls/websiteofthemonth/.
According to Minh Tran, ENMU Webmaster, "The criteria for the award include ease of access, content, currency, design and navigation. The staff at the library are working really hard to keep the content of this site up-to-date and useful for our students."
Melveta Walker, Golden Library director, said that Lilah Gainey, public services librarian, has been instrumental in maintaining ENMU's award-winning site.
