Program Details

The study of history will help you better understand events in the news and will foster your understanding and enjoyment of our interconnected, globalized world. Coursework in our bachelor’s in history involves training in the use of historical sources as a way to develop skills in critical analysis, and a spirit of inquiry and open-mindedness. More than knowing our past, a historical approach to problem-solving modern-day events is appreciated in: teaching, law, journalism, politics, ministry, civil or diplomatic services or business.

In this program, you will choose coursework from U.S., European and non-western areas for study. We also offer specialized courses on topics like: history in film and fiction, diplomatic history and military studies.

You may major or minor in history. A major is also offered in social studies with an emphasis in history to teach at the secondary level. If you’re interested in elementary or special education study, you can complete an emphasis in Social Studies through the College of Education and Technology.

The Bachelor of Arts in History requires a foreign language proficiency, while the Bachelor of Science in History does not. If you are working on your BA in History, depending on your choice in foreign language, you may need to take your language courses in person.
