If you enjoy change, now is an exciting time to enter the journalism field. Journalism undergoes periodic shifts – such as the Penny Press Era of the 1830s and the birth of broadcast networks in the 1920s. Currently, another shift is happening as more and more publications embrace digital publishing.

You will receive hands-on experience producing the weekly newspaper The Chase. You also will have the opportunity to work with the online magazine Houndbytes. Both of these publications serve a readership of more than 5,800 people on campus and the local community.

Our journalism emphasis lets you learn the core skills all mass communicators need. You will also learn the convergence tools necessary to excel in contemporary media.

Journalism courses include:

  • Beginning writing
  • Intermediate writing
  • Feature Writing
  • Applied Writing for Media
  • Media Ethics
  • Photojournalism
