Financial Aid

Application Process
Financial aid is available to all students enrolled in distance education courses who meet eligibility requirements. Students at distant sites are treated the same as students on the main campus. Financial aid applications can be received by either of the following methods:

  1. Call 800.FOR.ENMU (800.367.3668); choose extension 2, which is the Financial Aid Office. Request that the Financial Aid Office mail you a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
  2. Download a copy of the FAFSA Express program from the U. S. Department of Education’s World Wide Web site: http://studentaid.ed.gov/PORTALSWebApp/students/english/fafsa.jsp

After the Financial Aid Office receives your processed financial aid application, you will be mailed an award letter that will inform you as to your financial aid awards.

Contact Person
Questions concerning financial aid should be directed to the Office of Financial Aid at 575.562.2194 or you may dial 800.537.5376 and request extension 2194. The fax number to the Financial Aid Office is 575.562.2198.

Timing can be a factor in releasing financial aid to distance learners. Your registration cannot be entered into the computer until you have been admitted to the Portales campus. Your registration must be entered into the registration module before Financial Aid can determine your enrollment status.
Note: Financial aid funds cannot be released until your enrollment status can be certified by the Financial Aid office. This may result in a delay of your financial aid funds.

If you plan to pay with your financial aid, you must either pay the Accounts Receivable office in full or make payment arrangements by the last day to pay for the semester.

Aid Disbursements
No one may pick up a refund check. All refunds will be mailed. To receive a refund, you must sign and return your Authorization to Apply Aid form to Accounts Receivable. If you choose not to complete the Authorization to Apply Aid form, you will need to come to the Accounts Receivable in Portales to process your account. Any refund check will be mailed to you within two business days. Bookstore charges will not be authorized by Accounts Receivable based on incoming financial aid, but books can be purchased through financial aid awards that have been received.

Help us keep your records current. Refunds mailed prior to the first day of classes will be sent to your home address. Refunds mailed after classes begin will be sent to your local (ENMU) address. Please check the accuracy of your address with Accounts Receivable.

Scholarship Information
New Mexico residents with a GPA of 3.0 or higher will qualify for the Distance Education Scholarship made possible by private gifts from New Mexico corporations. Two $400 scholarships will be awarded each year to students enrolled for credit in distance education courses. The scholarship is continuing if the recipient maintains a 3.2 GPA and a six-hour load during the scholarship period. Applications may be obtained through the Scholarship Center at Accounts Receivable.

After proper certification has been made and approved, persons receiving veteran benefits are required to make “satisfactory progress toward an educational goal” to continue receiving benefits. Generally, students are making “satisfactory progress” when scholastic requirements and attendance policies as published in this catalog have been fulfilled. In addition, students must satisfy program rates as stipulated by law. It is the veteran’s responsibility to confirm details of certification in the Office of the Registrar, Administration Building, Room 105.

Application for advance payment must be submitted 45 days in advance. Regular monthly payments are made at the end of each month.

Other special services may be available for veterans, such as tutoring and work-study jobs. Please contact the Registrar's Office for Veteran Affairs Information.
