Course Challenges
It is possible to receive credit for courses by taking a 'course challenge' to prove your expertise in the area. Course challenges may take the form of exams, projects, writing assignments or several different measures of course competency. Students should discuss these requirements with the instructor and department chair before deciding to challenge a course. Course challenges apply to undergraduate work only and are not open to students who have already enrolled in the course or who have attended more than four weeks of the course.

After consultation, you should secure a memo from the instructor and chair authorizing the challenge. This memo, when signed by the dean, should be taken to the cashier, the challenge fee paid, and the receipt and the memo returned to the instructor administering the challenge.

The challenge exam will be scheduled at a time convenient for both you and the instructor. If the challenge is successfully completed, the faculty member completes a “Challenge Form” (Change of Grade form amended to read “Challenge”) reflecting a CRE grade awarded for the challenge if you earned a “C” or better. If you did not earn a “C”, no form is completed and no entry is made on your transcript.

You may petition to challenge the course a second time, but another fee must be paid and a different test must be prepared. A maximum of 21 credits may be earned through course challenging. For CLEP examination, ACT and AP credit options, please see ENMU’s Undergraduate Catalog.

Recording Policy
Under most circumstances, recordings of classes can not be provided to students. If you are out sick or have a family emergency you will not be allowed to make up the missed classes by viewing the recordings. This is intended to make the experience of taking distance education classes as similar as possible to the experience of taking classes in a face-to-face setting.

If a student has a disability, and that disability causes the student to miss class, the student can receive a copy of the tape of the missed class. The student must be registered with the Office of Services for Students with Disabilities.

In the unforeseen event of a power or transmission problem, the course will be taped in Portales and made available to your ITV facilitator. The ITV facilitator will arrange for a tape for you. The tape must be returned to the facilitator.

Classroom Conduct
We hope the Distance Education program is beneficial to you and request your cooperation in helping to make the learning experience as successful as possible. Please abide by the following rules:

  1. Smoking is not permitted in the classroom.
  2. Class attendance is expected of all students. Coming to class late or leaving early does not give you full benefit of the instruction, and often disturbs others in class. Faculty set attendance policies and may penalize students who arrive late or leave early.
  3. Enrolled students are the only persons who may attend class. Please do not bring a friend or another member of your family. Persons wishing to “audit” a course are required to pay the tuition rate.
  4. Disruptions such as talking, making remarks about the instructor’s presentation or excessive movement around the classroom are inconsiderate and will not be allowed. Students who continue to disrupt their own or other classes at the site may face action from the instructor or Distance Education.
  5. Cell phones must be turned off during class.
  6. Food is not allowed in the ITV classrooms. Drinks must be in a sealable container, such as a bottle or insulated beverage cup.
  7. Fax and telephones are for class-related use only.
  8. Visual and audio problems should be reported to the facilitator, who will contact the appropriate personnel.

Distance Education facilitators are ENMU employees with the authority to enforce these policies. It is our intention to continue to improve the ITV program. We welcome your suggestions and comments.
