Distance Education Facilitators
Distance Education facilitators are hired to assist students and faculty. They have a variety of duties, including sending and receiving documents, handouts, exams, tests and papers; photocopying materials specified by the faculty member; and proctoring exams. They do all they can to discourage dishonesty. If they observe any students engaging in activities that may be dishonest, they report it to the appropriate faculty member. Facilitators also assist with the admission and registration of students and help with computer technology. If you have questions about how to do computer research, they will assist you in contacting the Eastern New Mexico University Golden Library. They will also assist you in accessing the Internet, or give you pointers regarding how to access research sites. Facilitators are the ENMU contacts in your community, so if you have questions or concerns about how things are done or suggestions on ways to improve things, please talk with a facilitator. It is the facilitator’s responsibility to assist you with registration, answer questions about textbooks, supplies and materials, and to help with the classroom technology, such as the computer and related equipment.

The facilitator records attendance at the beginning of class, and the instructor may check it at the end of the class period. If you need to attend class at another ITV site, please inform the instructor and the facilitator.

Facilitators are limited in their roles and the services they can provide. They are not allowed to use university property to make copies of your class notes or homework. State law places restrictions on the use of equipment. Facilitators may help with some of the processes of using software. Their ultimate goal is to help you acquire the skills to complete your task. Please do not ask the facilitators to overstep that role and help you with the completion of the assigned work. To do so results in a violation of academic integrity.

  • FAX Machine
The fax machine is used to send and receive information from the instructor. Often, tests are faxed back so that the instructor can have the test immediately for grading. Faxing must be handled by the facilitator and is to be used for official purposes only.
  • Talkback Phone System
A talkback phone system or conferencing unit is used for ITV classrooms. To interact with faculty and classmates at other locations, push and hold the button at the base of the mike and speak normally. When you have finished speaking, release the button. As soon as you press the mike button, the system will mute the TV to prevent feedback. Once you release the mike button, the TV will resume normal audio operation.
  • Library Research
Golden Library offers a full range of library services to ENMU’s distance education students, including reference assistance, interlibrary loan and document delivery, electronic course reserves, and printed and Web-based instructional guides. A distance education librarian is available to provide personal assistance to students by phone or e-mail. The library’s catalog and a variety of online databases (some with full-text capability) are accessible online. Visit the Distance Education Library Resources.
