DanceFusion Funk Belly Dance for WomenJoin Yolanda Chavez in this exciting dance style, fusion funk belly dance. In this class, you will learn techniques and combinations for classical Orientale belly dance and tribal style belly dance for a fun-filled aerobic exercise. In this dance form, Yolanda fuses together Arabic pop, Orientale and tribal style belly dance and also includes ethno-fusion styles and yogini yoga (yoga designed for females). Yolanda has studied Middle Eastern dance for the last eight years with Lorelei Taylor and other internationally acclaimed artists. She has traveled to Bali, Indonesia, to study Balinese Dance and to teach workshops in belly dance and Spanish/gypsy fusion. Yolanda attends the Middle Eastern Music and Dance Camp in Mendocino, Calif., where she studies the music and dance of Asia Minor, North Africa and the Middle East. As a longtime member of the NaTaRaja Dance Troupe, Yolanda has performed throughout New Mexico. She teaches credit dance and yoga courses at ENMU in the Department of Health and Physical Education. Lessons in this class are just for fun, noncredit, require no previous experience and are open to women of all shapes, sizes and levels of physical conditioning. Yolanda’s class is modern and primitive, urban and tribal, all in a nonjudgmental environment. The class is designed to suit any female, ages 18 and up. Fusion funk belly dance can improve students’ flexibility, balance, endurance and confidence and relieve stress. Be sure to wear comfortable clothes that will allow for stretching and dance movement. A hip wrap or scarf is recommended but not required.
Ballet/Tap/Jazz for ages 4–18Come point your toes and tap your feet with returning dance instructor Cassie Brooks. Miss Cassie studies dance at ENMU and has studied at the Dance Academy in Clovis. She has taught for Distance Education since 1999. Students will gain selfconfidence, develop creativity, improve coordination and acquire an understanding of rhythm. Dance helps develop body strength, flexibility and grace. Miss Cassie’s dance program for this summer includes multiple offerings of ballet/tap, ballet, ballet/ jazz and jazz/lyrical for various ages, some classes running for eight weeks, other for only four weeks. All classes are open to students of all skill levels. Leotards (any color) with pink or white tights are a must for every class, along with appropriate shoes. If a student enrolls in more than one class, there will be a $5 discount on the price for the second class. There will be no recital for the summer session. A parental consent form is required for all participants under 18.
