Tennis for ages 8 through adult

Learn the fundamentals of tennis or polish your game skills in the sport with returning instructor Jeremy Sturm. Jeremy grew up playing tennis in Indiana and has played for over 20 years. He played No. 1 varsity during his junior and senior years in high school, and competed in a number of U.S. Tennis Association tournaments as a junior. Jeremy has continued to play for recreation and has a great understanding of tennis fundamentals and strategies.

A parent himself and a great people person, Jeremy excels at working with a broad range of ages and talents. He welcomes both beginners and intermediate players to this class for ages 8 through adult. Tennis racket and athletic shoes are required. A parental consent form is required for all children and for teenagers under 18.

When: Tuesdays, 6–7 p.m., June 10–July 22, 2008

Yoga: Mind, Body and Spirit

Yolanda Chavez, returning YogaFit certified instructor, also teaches yoga and dance classes for college credit in the ENMU Department of Health and Physical Education. Her classes focus on the cultivation of a joyful spirit, peaceful heart and body that radiates happiness. Yolanda teaches an eclectic blend of styles: the postures are taught in the hatha yoga style which focuses on proper alignment for safety and slow, steady progress.

Yolanda’s instruction will allow almost anyone to practice yoga since different modifications will be offered for beginners and intermediate students. Added to that is a healthy measure of guided meditations and breathing techniques that help bring a peace of mind while melting away stress and insomnia. Please join us in this nonjudgmental environment. Bring a mat, blanket and small pillow, if possible. Comfortable clothes are required. A parental consent form is required for all children and for teenagers under 18.

New Bookkeeping 100—The Basics

Learn the basics of bookkeeping and become familiar with financial statements in this noncredit course. Join instructor Jane Millette, retired CPA, for this introductory course.

  • Week 1: Building Blocks (terms, definitions, creating a chart of accounts, creating journal entries and posting journal entries)
  • Week 2: Putting it Together (ruling the accounts, creating a worksheet, adjustments and reconciling a bank account, depreciation, accruals and deferrals and financial statements)
  • Week 3: Computer Applications (pros and cons of popular programs such as Quickbooks, Peachtree and Microsoft).

Jane has years of experience teaching accounting and business courses. She hopes to empower everyday people, frazzled business owners, entrepreneurial wannabes and even service club treasurers with important, basic financial knowledge. Jane will provide an assortment of specialty papers and forms for a supply fee of $5, payable to the instructor (exact change in cash) at the first class meeting. Students should bring a calculator and pencil, as well as a notebook for taking notes.
