The Department of Curriculum and Instruction offers endorsement areas in:

Courses required for each minor (endorsement area) are listed below.

Bilingual Education with Elementary/Special Education Licensure (24 hours)

You may graduate with a bilingual education minor, but will not be eligible for endorsement by the NMPED until you pass the Prueba de Español. For this endorsement area, at least 12 hours of coursework must be taken in classes taught in Spanish. Native speakers are encouraged to take Spanish 105 and 205. Non-native speakers may take Spanish 201 and 202. Additionally, a GPA of 3.00 is required in this program.

English as a Second Language with Elementary/Special Education, Secondary Education and Early Childhood Licensure (24 hours)

You are required to complete a minimum of 6 hours in a language other than English with a grade of "C" or higher in each course. Additionally, a GPA of 3.00 is required in this endorsement area.

Complete 24 hours from following courses. To qualify for a New Mexico endorsement in reading, 24 hours are required with the Reading Education prefix (cannot include developmental reading courses). Additionally, a GPA of 3.00 is required in the endorsement area.

Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) Endorsement

The TESOL endorsement is a two-year, four-course, 12-hour graduate-level program leading to a TESOL endorsement. The 12 hours you earn in this program may also be counted toward the Master of Education in Bilingual Education or Pedagogy and Learning with a concentration in TESOL.
