Dr. Mark Dal PortoDr. Mark Dal Porto, Professor of Music, has been the Coordinator of Composition and Music Theory at Eastern New Mexico University since 2001.  Some recent performances of his works include “At Midnight” performed by the Vanguard Voices and Brass of Dearborn, Michigan in June 2007, “Galactica” performed by the National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine in May 2007, “Spring, the Sweet Spring” performed by the Prague Radio Opera Chorus in May 2007 and “Song of Eternity” performed by the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra in July 2006.

Dal Porto’s Song of the Night for Oboe, Voice and Piano, commissioned by Trio Encantada, has been performed over 30 times.  It had its international premier in Madrid, Spain in June 2005 and has also been performed in Chengdu, China, and throughout the US.  Additionally, Dal Porto was a featured composer and panelist for the 2004 John Donald Robb International Composers’ Symposium in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Dal Porto’s solo piano composition Domestic Suite: Scenes and Memories from Childhood is available on CD (with the composer performing) and his music has been featured on several PBS television shows.  Also available on CD is Song of the Night for Oboe, Voice and Piano with the composer at the keyboard.

Since 2005, Dal Porto has served on the Board of Directors as Composition Representative for the Rocky Mountain Region of the College Music Society.  In October 2004, his biography was selected to be published for life in Who’s Who in America (America’s preeminent biographical publisher).

Dr. Dal Porto received his Bachelor’s degree in Piano Performance and Master’s degree in Theory/Composition at California State University, Sacramento.  He received his Doctorate degree in Composition at The University of Texas at Austin as a student of Donald Grantham.  His past teaching assignments have included serving on the faculty at Texas State University, Northern State University and Texas Woman’s University.
