Jazz

The Department of Music at ENMU boasts many jazz studies opportunities for both music majors and nonmajors. The student performing groups include the jazz ensemble and student combo.

Both of these ensembles are filled by open auditions in the fall and spring semesters. Eastern also has many course offerings in jazz studies, including jazz history, jazz improvisation, jazz theory and jazz methods. The jazz methods course is required in the instrumental music education curriculum, and shows Eastern's commitment to future educators by introducing them to the latest teaching theories in jazz education.

Jazz Fest

Jazz Fest is a yearly event that brings area jazz enthusiasts together for two nights of performances.

Jazz music is also highlighted each fall at the Eastern New Mexico University Jazz Fest. This two-day event includes performances by professional and student jazz groups. Also included is a master classes and clinics to help foster student interest in America's only original art form.

Jazz Ensemble

The ENMU Jazz Ensemble is the premier jazz organization at Eastern. The ensemble is open, by audition, to those students who wish to perform and develop an appreciation for the jazz ensemble/big band literature. Repertoire covers a wide degree of jazz styles.

The jazz ensemble performs throughout the fall and spring semesters for University and civic events, including the annual ENMU Jazz Fest.
