Minors

The Department of Communication offers minors in communication studies, broadcast media and journalism. Courses required for each minor are listed below.

Communication Studies (15 hours)

This minor focuses on the study of human communication with regard to public speaking, politics, culture, and theory, with one additional elective chosen from areas such as popular culture, gender, organizational communication, nonverbal communication, research methods, and interpersonal or family communication.

If you are earning a major in communication, you may not choose communication studies as a minor.

Broadcast Media (18 hours)

This unique minor offers students an introduction to mass communication and professional broadcasting. If you're interested in learning more about television or radio, this minor is for you. Classes in reporting, audio production, and television production provide a foundation for careers in broadcasting or for future study. Interested students have the opportunity to gain additional experience at KENW, the public television and radio station located on Eastern's campus, as well as Hound Waves, ENMU's student-run radio station.

If you are earning a major in communication, you may not choose broadcast media as a minor.

Journalism (15 hours)

The journalism minor is a writing-intensive program that focuses on reporting for both print and new media. Students have the opportunity to publish their work in one of Eastern New Mexico University's premiere student publications, The Chase newspaper or HoundBytes, an online magazine.

If you are earning a major in communication, you may not choose journalism as a minor.
