If you are interested in how the various influences of human social interaction shape all areas of life, you should major in sociology. These influences can include race, gender, social class, inequality, family, religion, media and law. You will have the opportunity to take courses in sociological theory, social movements, social institutions (such as law, medicine, and the media), and social stratification including class, race, and gender-based inequalities. Although the time frame for degree completion varies with the individual student, the sociology major is structured as a four-year degree program. The degree can be completed three ways: entirely on-campus, online (through web-based or lecture-capture based courses) or through a combination of both.
