Educational Benefits for Veterans

ENMU appreciates your service and sacrifice! We understand veterans have different needs than other students and we understand your adjustment to the grind of college life can be a challenge. We’re proud to say we have a strong support system with veterans just like you involved and engaged to help you succeed.

In addition to the Veterans Upward Bound program that’s in full swing, we have a number of services that will be beneficial to you while you finish your education at ENMU.

  • Tutoring Center – offers help on all subjects
  • Math Lab – offers math assistance
  • Writing Center – offers help with English and writing
  • One-on-one tutors – including online tutoring
  • Credit for military training
  • Access to state-of-the-art computer labs
  • Golden Library – offers distance education library services, conference rooms and carrels, student lounge, photocopiers, art shows and other services.

Financial Services

  • Office of Financial Aid to assist you with finding and applying for scholarships and financial aid
  • VA Certifying Official to assist with VA entitlements, your degree plan and VA forms

Certification Process

You must submit an application for benefits to the This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. along with your request for certification and your degree plan. Initial processing will take six to eight weeks from the time the regional office in Muskogee, Okla. receives your application. To check on the status of your paperwork, call 888.442.4551.

When you are receiving VA educational benefits, you must notify the This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. of any changes made to your enrollment.

  • VA will pay only for classes required for degree plans and for repeated classes if a better grade is required for your degree plan.
  • All VA forms may be obtained at the Office of the Registrar. You can get a copy of your degree plan from the Office of Advising.

Advance Pay Option

You are eligible for Advance Pay if all three of the following apply to you:

  • You have never received VA benefits before.
  • You have been out of school for at least one semester.
  • It is at least 30 days before the beginning of the semester.

Please note that you will receive your first check quickly, but it will be 60 days before you receive your second check.

Do You Qualify?

Chapters:

  • #30 Montgomery GI Bill
    • A Brighter Future CAT IA - First entered active duty after 6/30/85 for less than three years. Paid in $1,200, HONORABLE discharge, has high school diploma or equivalent. No reserve time.
    • CAT IB - First entered active duty after 6/30/85 for three years or longer. Paid in $1,200, HONORABLE discharge, has high school diploma or equivalent.
    • CAT IC - First entered active duty after 6/30/85 and served at least two years of continuous HONORABLE active duty service, contracts for at least four years in Selected Reserve (within 1 year from active duty discharge date), paid in $1,200, HONORABLE discharge, has high school diploma or equivalent.
    • CAT I - First entered active duty after 6/30/85, has already served at least two continuous years of HONORABLE active duty service, is still on Active duty, paid in $1,200, has high school diploma or equivalent.
    • CAT IIA - OLD GI BILL CROSSOVER INTO MONTGOMERY GI BILL - Signed up for active duty by 12/31/76, had no break in service from 10/19/84 through 6/30/88 OR was not on active duty on 10/19/84 due to broken service, but had active duty service sometime during the period 10/19/84 and 6/30/85 AND continued on active duty without a break for the period required to establish MGIB entitlement, HONORABLE discharge, has high school diploma or equivalent.
    • CAT IIB - OLD GI BILL CROSSOVER INTO MONTGOMERY GI BILL - Signed up for active duty by 12/31/76, had no break in service from 10/19/84 through 6/30/85 OR was not on active duty on 10/19/84 due to broken service, but had active duty service sometime during the period 10/19/84 and 6/30/85 AND served on active duty for at least two continuous years from 7/1/85 through at least 6/30/87, contracts for at least four years in Selected Reserve (within one year from active duty discharge date), HONORABLE discharge, has high school diploma or equivalent.
    • CAT II - OLD GI BILL CROSSOVER INTO MONTGOMERY GI BILL - Signed up for active duty by 12/31/76, had no break in service from 10/19/84 6/30/88 OR was not on active duty on 10/19/84 due to broken service, but had active duty service sometime during the period 10/19/84 and 6/30/85 AND continued on active duty without a break for the period required to establish MGIB entitlement, is still on active duty, has high school diploma or equivalent.
  • #31 Vocational Rehabilitation
    • For ten percent disabled Vets

  • #1606 National Guard (Reserve)
    • Six Year Obligation. Needs to have NOBE (Notice of Basic Eligibility) from Commanding Officer
    • Money for this chapter is less than for Chapter 30
  • #35 Dependents Educational Assistance
    • Must be spouse, daughter, son, stepdaughter, stepson or adopted child of a veteran who is 100 percent permanently and totally disabled or deceased as a result of service.
  • #32 VEAP (Veterans Educational Assistance Program)
    • Entered active duty between 1/1/77 and 6/30/85 and paid into VEAP program
