Success Tips

We asked some transfer Students what helped them to succeed at ENMU. Here's their top five list.

  • Number five Get Acquainted with the ENMU website.

(That sounds simple, doesn't it?) You've been on the internet before. but every website is a little different. Find the key web pages that you need to check. Write down the phone number of your key contact people at ENMU. Poke around the website. No matter what you need, it's probably on a web page somewhere, and if you can't find it, call us or email and ASK!

  • Number four. Know your way around Blackboard!

You're probably familiar with Blackboard, the web-based learning platform. But if not, get familiar! Need help? www.enmu.edu/blackboard-helpdesk.

Take the Blackboard tutorial on the main page of your Bb class. or ask for help.

Check out your courses on Blackboard early in the semester.

  • Number three. Time Management

Review time management skills.

  • http://collegelife.about.com/od/academiclife/a/timemanagement.htm

Buy a calendar and use it!

Manage your stress and stay healthy! Plan your study time. Leave time to relax with friends and family, go to a ballgame or concert, exercise.

  • Number Two. Plan your Future.

Maybe you know exactly what you want to do with your life. But if you are still thinking, let us help.

Your faculty advisor is more than willing to help!

Don't wait until you are wearing your cap and gown and hugging your best friend to think "what's next?" Job? Family? Peace Corps? Graduate School? Let us help you succeed in college and afterwards!

  • Number one. Talk to Faculty!

Yes. This is number one! By far the best way to get to know your teachers (and for them to get to know you) is to talk to them. By phone, online, during office hours, after class, whenever--just do it!

What do you day? That's easy! show faculty that you care about your education. They will bend over backwards to help you succeed. For example..

  • Always tell your instructor if you will miss class. And if you miss class or an assignment, ask what you can do to make up the missed work.
  • Ask for help! If you are struggling with an assignment, talk to your instructor! Ask for an extension. Ask for help. ask for advice! Your teacher will appreciate that you cared enough to ask for help.
  • Survey says.. Over 96% of ENMU's graduating seniors said their contact with faculty outside the classroom was one of the aspects of ENMU they were most satisfied with. 327 seniors can't be wrong!

Ready For ENMU!

We hope this slideshow has provided you with some tips and some confidence about navigating the ENMU system. We welcome your calls and e-mails. Let us help make this year and this degree your best educational experience ever!

I definitely appreciate the close-knit community that we have on campus, and also the community of Portales. Small class sizes allow students to receive a more enhanced education as professors are very familiar with each of their students.

I chose to come to ENMU because the campus and town made me feel at home. My favorite place on campus is the Campus Union (CUB) because there is always a lot of activity going on there.
