Job Summary: Consults with customers and advises on the application of information technology systems to business processes. Works with limited supervision and has extensive latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. This position must be a solid technology generalist that will work closely with end users, and be an excellent communicator with a can do personality and strong work ethic. This position will not only be a hands-on support technologist but also assist in assigning work orders to other IT staff.
Works on multiple computer projects to design and implement solutions to business problems. Helps train and develop staff within the Information Technology Department. Will assist the Projects and Support Supervisor with help desk analysis and assigning work orders to IT staff. Will provide hands on maintenance and support for enhancing multiple computers and user applications. Will have the experience and judgment to collaborate with higher tiers to move support forward expeditiously. On call 24 hours per day to assist in restoring interrupted information services.

Qualifications: Education
A four-year college degree in any discipline is desired. Must have had training and work experience in computer support, help desk operations and/or systems analysis or a combination. Work experience may be substituted for formal education.
Without a degree, must have work experience demonstrating communications skills, technical ability, customer service, business knowledge, maturity, and a problem solving ability, as well as the required information systems experience.
Experience
Minimum of five (5) years of information technology experience with at least one (1) year experience on large-scale computers or equivalent.
Certification
Valid Texas Drivers License.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and written. Ability to correctly judge levels of support needed for a particular issue and be able to assign or elevate work appropriately to the correct technicians. Knowledge of systems analysis techniques. Knowledge of personal computer systems. Ability to understand project management concepts and techniques. Ability to collaborate diplomatically with other City employees and IT staff. Skilled in a wide variety of user applications. Must be able to demonstrate excellent customer service skills.

Duties: Provides internal consulting and specialized knowledge for the process of designing, implementing, administering, and maintaining complex computer hardware and software configurations.

Consults with users on development and implementation of new software systems, arriving at workable methods of data input and coherent and usable printed reports.

Maintains end user software and hardware, expanding and improving when necessary.

Helps analyze and assign work orders to IT staff.

Assists users with any software-related questions or problems, instructing users and technicians in any procedures necessary to correct any errors incurred.

Performs other duties as assigned.
